๐ Ambulance Access on Goddard Street
A quick update for neighbours on Goddard Street.
A few residents and staff at Goddard Court and some residents on Goddard Street have been in touch about problems with ambulances getting close enough to the buildings because of parked cars blocking the dropped kerb.
These buildings are home to over 55s, so fast and clear access for the emergency services is absolutely essential.
I have now raised an official Members Enquiry with Cheshire East Highways asking them to look at whether ambulance markings or other measures can be put in place. I have also asked for a site visit so the issue can be properly assessed.
I will keep everyone updated as soon as we receive a response.
If anyone living nearby has experienced similar issues, please feel free to message me.

๐ฏ๏ธ Dangerously Dark Around the Crewe Lifestyle Centre
For months now, the lights around the building and the steps leading to the Dunelm car park have been out. Staff at the centre have already treated people whoโve tripped and been hurt, and the police have reported more anti-social behaviour and groups gathering in the area after dark.
Itโs been like this since August. Several people and agencies have reported it, yet nothing has been done. Weโve been told it might be down to a dispute over who owns or maintains the lights, but thatโs no excuse when peopleโs safety is at risk.
Iโve asked for a clear answer on whoโs responsible, when the lights will be fixed, and what can be done in the meantime to make the area safer, such as temporary lighting or patrols.
People using the centre deserve to feel safe walking to and from it, not left in total darkness. This needs sorting quickly.
Iโll keep you all updated once I have a full response.

๐๏ธ Crewe Town Centre. The Hard Truth Over recent months, many residents have been asking: โWhatโs really happening with Creweโs town centre?โ David Simcox recently submitted questions to Cheshire East Council to get straight answers about what the โregenerationโ really means for Crewe. Weโre sharing the councilโs written responses here so everyone can see the same information and understand whatโs planned. (Cllr Roger Morris was not involved in submitting these questions.) ๐ 1๏ธโฃ The ยฃ11 million car park, the project that started it all The multi-storey car park was built years ago for a development that never happened. The council admits it was part of a failed scheme and is currently loss-making and underused. They now say it will eventually replace Chester Street and Delamere Street car parks, both of which are full most days. But thereโs no new parking study yet to prove the multi-storey can cope once hundreds of new homes are built around it. That study will only happen after new planning applications come forward. So, in effect, the council plans to remove car parks first and check if the new one can handle it later. Itโs easy to see why so many people in Crewe think itโs a ยฃ11 million white elephant, a car park built for a town centre that doesnโt yet exist. ๐๏ธ 2๏ธโฃ What the โnew town centreโ actually means This is the part most people donโt realise. The councilโs official wording calls it a โhousing-led regeneration schemeโ, around 300 new homes in the town centre, with small shops, offices, or community spaces below them. That means the Crewe of the future wonโt be a town centre like Liverpool, Chester, or even how Crewe once was. The big retail dream has gone, the councilโs new strategy is to build homes first, hoping that cafรฉs and small shops will follow. In effect it will be like Nantwich Road, West Street and Edleston Road. So if anyone is expecting a new shopping hub full of big stores, that simply isnโt the vision anymore. ๐ท 3๏ธโฃ Why housing first, not shops or leisure? The council says large retail or leisure projects arenโt โviableโ, meaning no developer will take them on. Housing is seen as the only thing that currently attracts investment, and they believe once people live in the centre, other businesses might follow later. Itโs a gamble, build the homes and hope the rest comes. โ ๏ธ 4๏ธโฃ Financial risk Even this scheme depends on millions from Homes England to fill what the council calls a โsignificant viability gap.โ If that funding falls through, the council admits the project โmay not be delivered.โ That could leave us facing another half-finished site, something Crewe has sadly seen before. ๐ 5๏ธโฃ Transparency Much of the detail remains hidden in โPart 2โ confidential papers. Even the Chamber of Commerce hasnโt seen everything yet. The council says residents will be consulted once the developer is formally engaged, but right now, weโre being asked to take a lot on trust. โ๏ธ
A quick note of thanks to Start Well at The Wishing Well for all their incredible work with local children. It was a real pleasure to support this project through my business, Discounted Cleaning Supplies, and to see the new kit being put to good use. Roger Morris wasnโt able to be there on this occasion, but both of us are proud to back the fantastic work being done.
The dedication and hard work from the Start Well at The Wishing Well team is second to none, and itโs fantastic to see the difference being made for children in our area.
Tonight we challenged Cheshire East Council at the Economy & Growth Committee over their plans to turn the Royal Arcade site, Chester Street and Delamere Street car parks into a 300-home housing estate. ๐๏ธ
We promised to be open with residents โ so here are the 7 questions we put on the record:
1๏ธโฃ Parking and Access โ The ยฃ11m multi-storey ๐
ฟ๏ธ was built for the failed Peveril scheme, not to replace Chester and Delamere. Itโs already loss-making and underused. What evidence is there it will really cope once 300 more homes are added?
2๏ธโฃ Strategic Direction โ Turning Crewe town centre into a housing estate is not regeneration, itโs surrender. โ๐๏ธ Is the council redefining the town centre as residential, instead of a retail and leisure hub?
3๏ธโฃ True Regeneration โ Regeneration has to mean shops, offices and life in the town centre ๐ฌ๐จโ๐ฉโ๐งโ๐ฆ โ not just housing dropped on top of a failed car park. How will this scheme guarantee those wider benefits?
4๏ธโฃ Sequencing โ Weโve seen failed schemes before for example Peveril (2021). ๐ Why build 300 homes before delivering shops, offices and leisure? Isnโt this putting the cart before the horse? ๐ด๐
5๏ธโฃ Financial Risk โ The councilโs own report admits thereโs a โviability gapโ ๐ท that depends on millions from Homes England. If that fails, will residents end up footing the bill through higher council tax ๐ธ or service cuts?
6๏ธโฃ Transparency โ Much of the detail is hidden in Part 2 confidential papers ๐. The Chamber supports the idea, but even they havenโt seen the full facts. How can anyoneโs support be fully informed without transparency?
7๏ธโฃ Legal Barriers โ The councilโs own title review found restrictive covenants โ๏ธ on the central car park land. Have these been resolved, and if not, could they delay or even block redevelopment?
Crewe has been let down too many times before. ๐ Residents deserve straight answers, not another half finished scheme or more broken promises.
Weโll share the councilโs responses once they are available. ๐ข

๐ซ VICTORY: HMO REFUSED ON WEST STREET ๐ซ
Weโre pleased to report that today the Southern Planning Committee rejected the application to cram a six-person HMO into 523 West Street.
This was absolutely the right decision โ and a win for common sense. ๐
We made it clear the scheme failed to meet the councilโs own policies, including:
โ HOU 4 โ no internal communal space and not enough outdoor amenity
โ HOU 10 โ inadequate bin and cycle storage
โ SD 2 & SE 1 โ poor design, no sense of place
โ NPPF Paragraph 130 โ fails to improve character or quality of the area
๐ The committee listened.
๐ฃ๏ธ Residents spoke up.
โ We stood our ground.
A big thank you to everyone who objected, shared concerns, or supported behind the scenes. ๐ฌ๐ช Together, we protected a local street from overdevelopment.

๐ง FixMyStreet is being replaced โ meet traCE ๐ ๏ธ
Cheshire East Council is launching a brand-new tool called โtraCEโ to replace FixMyStreet for reporting potholes, fly-tipping, and other local issues.
๐๏ธ From TOMORROW! Wednesday 23rd July, traCE will be the new go-to site to report:
Potholes
Abandoned vehicles
Fly-tipping
Fallen trees
Broken signs
โฆand more, right across Cheshire East.
๐ฒ Itโs available 24/7 on your phone, tablet or computer โ with live updates and a handy map so you can see if others have already reported the same issue.
๐ Any open reports from FixMyStreet will automatically carry over, so you donโt need to start again.
๐ We really hope this new system is more effective & not just a shiny rebrand. Residents have told us time and again that reporting is one thing, but getting things fixed is another. Weโll be testing it ourselves and keeping track of how it performs.
๐ Youโll be able to access traCE here from launch day:

๐ Big shout out to our colleague Councillor James Pratt – Crewe, St Barnabas for leading the charge and reaching out to major retailers like Primark and The Range about the empty M&S site in Crewe. ๐ฌ James is right: whether itโs a big name or space for independent businesses and start-ups, we need to seize opportunities like this. A thriving town centre is good for all of us.

๐ NOT A PENNY FOR CREWE NORTH โ SO WHERE IS THIS โBIGGEST INVESTMENT IN 10 YEARSโ? ๐
Cheshire East Council is boasting about the โbiggest investment in 10 yearsโ for our roads and transport network โ ยฃ53 million is being spent across the borough.
But letโs be clear: Crewe North hasnโt seen a single penny of it.
Nothing for Underwood Lane.
Nothing for Badger Avenue.
Nothing for Ford Lane.
Nothing for Selworthy Drive.
These are major roads, in daily use by thousands, and theyโre falling apart. Residents report potholes, broken footpaths, unsafe crossings, and dangerous junctions. But once again, Crewe North has been ignored.
This is not how public money should be distributed. The Council says itโs focusing on the roads โthat make the most difference to peopleโ, yet entire wards have been left out.
Weโre calling this out and demanding answers. Whereโs the fairness? Whereโs the logic?
Weโre not interested in headlines, weโre interested in results. Crewe needs proper investment, not promises. And this programme just doesnโt deliver.

๐ #OpSceptre | Week of Action to Tackle Knife Crime
We joined our brilliant PCSOs today for a knife sweep across parts of Crewe North as part of the national Week of Action on knife crime.
โ
No knives were found, but we did collect plenty of litter and had some great conversations with residents about safety and pride in our local parks.

This afternoon I joined Crewe Central Ward – Roger Morris and met the brilliant PCSO Penny Probin and PCSO Lorraine Meggs Crewe Central Police down on Derby Docks.
We covered a lot of local issues, including fires on the docks, school parking, bins, antisocial behaviour, Bright Street Park, and parking obstructions.
We also raised residents' concerns about parking problems on Joseph Reddrop Way and speeding on West Street, where the new speed calming measures seem to have made things worse, not better.
We're now planning to hold joint PCSO surgeries with Cllr Morris to keep tackling these problems together and give residents more opportunities to speak up and meet us all in one convenient place.
Big thanks to Penny and Lorraine โ it's great to see teamwork in action! ๐๐๐ฅ

๐ฆ URGENT UPDATE: Traffic Lights Out AGAIN โ West Street Junction ๐ฆ
The traffic lights at the West Street / Hightown / Broad Street junction are out again today.
This is the same busy junction where residents raised concerns on 9th April. Although the lights were marked as "fixed," the issue has returned, and understandably, residents are concerned.
๐ด I have reported this again on FixMyStreet and contacted Cheshire East Highways.
โ
Highways have confirmed they are sending someone out urgently to investigate the situation.
Crewe Central Ward – Roger Morris and I are keeping a close eye on this and monitoring updates from Highways.
We will continue to make sure residents' concerns are taken seriously and that a lasting solution is found if needed.
โก๏ธ Please take extra care if travelling through the area.

Fly-tipping in West Avenue โ CLEARED!
I spotted this fly tipping near the alley gate and across the road in West Avenue and reported it straight away via FixMyStreet and Iโm pleased to say itโs now been sorted! Thank you Cheshire East Council for resolving this so quickly
But hereโs the thing: the moment one lot goes, another appears. Itโs frustrating, and itโs not fair on the residents who care about our area.
๐ซ Please donโt fly tip. There are proper ways to get rid of waste:
Use your grey bins
Take large items to the tip
Book a bulky waste collection with the council
