Our Priorities for Crewe North

We have spoken to residents across Crewe North and listened carefully to what matters most. These are not priorities chosen from a national party leaflet. They are the issues you have told us about, time and time again, on the doorstep and in the street. Here is where we stand and what we intend to do about each one.

🔒

1. Safer Communities

Everyone deserves to feel safe where they live. That is not too much to ask. We have heard concerns from residents about anti-social behaviour, nuisance activity and a sense that problems need to be tackled before they get worse. When residents raise safety concerns they deserve to be taken seriously and to see action taken.

What we will do:

  • Tackle anti-social behaviour and nuisance activity and take it seriously when residents report it
  • Work with Cheshire Police, local partners and residents to identify and address problem hotspots
  • Support initiatives that make people feel safer in their homes, parks and public spaces
  • Work with the Local Policing Unit at Crewe to ensure concerns from residents are acted on
  • Encourage residents to report anti-social behaviour via 101 or anonymously via Crimestoppers
  • Push for a visible community policing presence across the ward
  • Keep residents informed through our Facebook page and website about what is being done

2. Cleaner Streets and Greater Pride in Our Area

Crewe North should be a place we are proud of. How an area looks and feels matters to the people who live there. Residents have told us about litter and fly-tipping, unkempt verges, weeds in gutters and dog waste bins that are not emptied often enough. These are basic services the council is responsible for — and they should be delivered to the standard residents have every right to expect.

What we will do:

  • Tackle litter, fly-tipping and environmental neglect and report it to the appropriate authority
  • Improve street cleanliness and the maintenance of public areas
  • Encourage greater community involvement in keeping our neighbourhoods looking their best
  • Report missed bin collections and follow them up with Cheshire East directly
  • Push for more frequent emptying of dog waste bins in known problem locations
  • Challenge Cheshire East on grass cutting frequency for verges and public spaces
  • Work with Crewe Town Council Rangers on litter and general tidiness in public areas

🚧

3. Better Roads and Infrastructure

Residents deserve roads and footpaths that are fit for purpose. Potholes appear, get a temporary patch and then come back worse a few months later. Residents have been putting up with this for too long and it is not good enough. When contractors carry out work, it must be done to a proper standard the first time.

What we will do:

  • Push for faster repairs to potholes and damaged pavements and challenge poor workmanship by contractors
  • Hold Cheshire East Council accountable for maintenance standards across the ward
  • Report every pothole and road defect via TraCE and follow up until it is properly repaired — not just patched
  • Ensure local infrastructure keeps pace with any new development in the ward
  • Push for a long-term resurfacing programme for the worst affected roads
  • Encourage residents to report issues directly via our Report an Issue page

🌿

4. Protecting Our Green Spaces

We must balance growth with protecting the character of our communities. Green spaces, open land and the Green Belt contribute to the quality of life for everyone in Crewe North. Once they are lost, they are gone for good. We will make sure that when growth does happen, it happens in the right places.

What we will do:

  • Challenge inappropriate development on Green Belt and valuable open spaces
  • Prioritise the use of brownfield sites before greenfield or Green Belt development
  • Protect the green areas that contribute to residents’ quality of life and the character of the ward
  • Attend and speak at relevant planning committee meetings affecting Crewe North
  • Keep residents informed of new planning applications that could affect green spaces in the area
  • Work with residents and local groups to make the case for proper planning protections

📋

5. Stronger Accountability at Cheshire East Council

Residents have a right to know how their money is being spent. Cheshire East Council must be transparent about its decisions and be held to account when it falls short. We will be the voice of Crewe North residents at Cheshire East — asking the awkward questions, scrutinising the budgets and making sure your money is spent wisely.

What we will do:

  • Push for greater transparency in council decision-making
  • Scrutinise spending and budget decisions and challenge waste and inefficiency wherever it is found
  • Ensure taxpayers receive value for money from council services
  • Vote against unnecessary increases to councillor allowances
  • Keep residents informed about council decisions that affect Crewe North
  • Raise issues formally at committee when the council is not meeting its responsibilities

Our priorities for Crewe North are simple

  • Safer communities and tackling anti-social behaviour
  • Cleaner streets and better maintained neighbourhoods
  • Fixing potholes and improving local infrastructure
  • Protecting green spaces and prioritising brownfield development
  • Holding Cheshire East Council accountable for how it spends your money

Personal Statement

“We have lived in Crewe for over 20 years and we’ve seen both the best of our community and the challenges we face. Our priorities are focused on the issues residents raise time and time again: safer streets, cleaner neighbourhoods, better roads, protecting our green spaces and ensuring the council spends taxpayers’ money wisely. We believe local people deserve a strong voice and someone who will work hard to get things done.”

We will not make promises we cannot keep. What we will promise is this: we will turn up, we will fight your corner, and we will not go quiet when things are not being done properly.

If you have an issue that is not listed here, we want to hear about it. Crewe North deserves representatives who are genuinely working for the people who live here. That is exactly what Claire and Joe intend to be.
